Cannabis ointment to prepare at home

Cannabis is a plant that has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. You can prepare a cannabis ointment and benefit from its active ingredients.

These active ingredients, called cannabinoids, can have beneficial effects on our body. When we apply a cannabis ointment to the skin, the cannabinoids interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the skin, providing a series of benefits.

One of the main benefits of cannabis ointment is its ability to relieve pain. If you suffer from muscle pain, joint pain or even chronic pain, using this cannabis ointment can help you relieve pain naturally and effectively. In addition, it may be useful in the treatment of other diseases due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Properties of cannabis ointment

Thank you to your medicinal properties, cannabis ointment can be used to treat various conditions, such as:

  • Skin conditions: Cannabis ointment can be effective in treating skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and minor burns. Its anti-inflammatory, soothing and regenerating properties can help relieve itching, reduce inflammation and promote skin healing.
  • Neuralgia. Neuralgia is a disorder that causes intense, stabbing pain in the nerves. Cannabis ointment can provide relief to people with nerve pain by reducing pain and inflammation in the affected nerves.
  • Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by widespread pain in muscles and soft tissues. Cannabis ointments can help relieve the pain and muscle stiffness associated with this condition, helping those affected improve their quality of life.
  • Migraines and headaches. Some people find relief by applying cannabis ointment topically to treat migraines and headaches. Its analgesic and antispasmodic effects can help reduce the intensity and frequency of pain.
  • Phlebeurism. Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted veins, which often occur in the legs and can cause pain, inflammation and cosmetic discomfort.
Cannabis ointment can be useful in the treatment of varicose veins due to its vasodilator and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied topically, cannabis ointment improves blood circulation in affected veins, reduces inflammation, and relieves symptoms associated with varicose veins.
  • Cannabis ointments may also be helpful for skin problems such as burns, insect bites, or minor skin irritation. Its calming and regenerating properties can help speed up the healing process and reduce discomfort.

First step. Take hemp extract

Since pure CBD is very expensive, its active ingredients can be extracted directly from the hemp plant by macerating it in vegetable oil. Choose a hemp variety with a high concentration of CBD, such as Pure CBD Tatanka, Futura 75, etc.
.
The vegetable oil will extract the CBD from the plant, which is what matters most to us. We can use cooking oils that are cheaper than hemp oil, such as olive or sunflower oil. Although it is ideal for a better skin feel, use cosmetic grade almond or coconut oil.

Second step. Choose essential oils with terpenes

We have observed that the terpenes found in hemp essential oil have powerful muscle relaxing, nervous system calming and anti-inflammatory properties. Cannabis essential oil can be added to ointments, but to obtain quick and long-lasting effects, the dosage of this ointment must be high. The downside is that it is also expensive, but we know that these terpenes are found in other essential oils.

The most common terpenes found in hemp essential oil are:

  • Myrcene 38,2%
  • Alpha terpinol 22,2%
  • Transocimen 20,4%

They are mainly responsible for the properties of hemp essential oil, but they are also found in other essential oils.

myrcene

This active ingredient represents up to 50% of the total terpenes found in some cannabis varieties. It has been shown to relax muscles and relieve chronic pain and arthritis. It can be obtained from the essential oils of juniper (7-20%), lemon grass (15%) or oregano (14%).

Alpha-terpineol

Alpha-terpineol is a monoterpene found in the essential oils of lavender, juniper, marjoram, niaouli, and rosemary. It relaxes muscle spasms and has a general relaxing effect.
Some essential oils rich in alpha-terpineol: Pine 26%, Tea Tree 3-5%, Niaouli: 3 to 8%, Eucalyptus: 4 to 14%, Coffee: 7 to 18%

Transocimen

It is a terpene with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which calms joint discomfort. Some essential oils contain large amounts of this substance, such as oregano and thyme. You can choose these essential oils to get a good dose of calming and anti-inflammatory terpenes in the ointment.

Third step. Prepare the cannabis ointment

One of the characteristics of ointments is that they are slowly absorbed products. This is an advantage because if you apply a layer to the skin, the CBD and terpenes will be continuously absorbed for several hours, creating a long-lasting effect.

Ointments are mainly composed of an oil and a fatty thickener.

We can thicken hemp oleate with any ingredient that we use in cosmetics, such as wax (beeswax, carnauba, candelilla, soy...), cetyl alcohol or stearic acid. The higher their melting point, the thicker they become.
Normally between 15 and 25% are added to the formula, depending on the consistency you want to give to the cannabis ointment.

The dose of essential oil will be high, much higher than that used in cosmetics, to calm the muscles and reduce inflammation. You can add approximately 10% essential oil. To prevent the oleate from going rancid, we will add vitamin E as an antioxidant.

Let's consider a simple but effective formula:

Cannabis ointment for muscle and joint diseases

PHASE A

Beeswax 20%
Cannabis oleate 69%

PHASE B

Oregano essential oil 3%
Pine essential oil 2%
Eucalyptus essential oil 2%
Wintergreen essential oil 3%
Vitamin E 1%

PREPARATION

In a bain-marie, put PHASE A (wax and oleate) in a heat-resistant glass or jar and heat to 80°C until the wax melts.

In another glass, mix the essential oils and vitamin E.

After the wax melts, remove the glass from the water bath and wait until the temperature drops to 60°C so as not to affect the essential oils and vitamin.

Add cup B to cup A, stir gently. Wait until it thickens a little and then store in a jar.

NOTES:

If you do not have all of these essential oils, you can replace them with others listed above or you can do without some by correcting the percentage of the formula. The idea is to keep your total dose close to 10%.

You can also vary the percentage of wax. Add a little more if you want it thicker or more oleato if you want it more fluid.

Keep in mind that if you prepared the oleate with coconut oil, its consistency will vary with temperature and will influence the final texture of the cannabis ointment.

Remember that each person is unique and results may vary. Before using cannabis ointment to treat any condition, you should consult your doctor for personal advice to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your specific situation.
